MelMax® is a sterile, inert wound dressing impregnated with a metal ion formulation and medical grade buckwheat honey specifically selected for medical use. The blend of trace elements (metal ions) normally also occurs in wound exudate and in the woundbed.

Buckwheat honey is a rich source of phenolic compounds shown to be responsible for superior anti-oxidant activity; pH modulation is the basis for a cascade of regulatory processes bringing contaminated and chronic wounds back to appropriate stages of healing.

MelMax medical grade honey-based wound dressings are indicated for contaminated and infected wounds:

  • Acute wounds (burns, post-operative and trauma wounds)
  • Chronic wounds (ulcus cruris, diabetic and pressure ulcers)

MelMax dressings contain medical grade dark buckwheat honey and a metal ionformulation. Acting together they:

  • Regulate bacterial contamination
  • Regulate enzymatic balance
  • Decrease the influence of reactive oxygen species

Medical grade honey as an antibacterial agent

Medical grade honey supports woundhealing: it is a powerful bacteria-regulating agent; reduces the inflammation reaction; stimulates autolytic debridement; enhances cellular growth; reduces the formation of scar tissue; neutralises odour and has strong anti-oxidant properties.

The metal ion formulation regulates the MMP balance in the wound bed by means of pH modulation.

This is a requirement for a coordinated  process during formation of the extracellulair matrix and reduces the production of reactive oxygen species. The metal ion formulation assists the healing process preventingchronic wounds from stalling.

With a wide application for a diversity of wounds, MelMax prevents & cures infections.
